“Colour is my day-long obsession, joy and torment.” -Claude Monet

Think of all the beauty you see in a day. Not to mention the sounds you hear, the tastes you taste, the scents. I am overwhelmed sometimes, when I quiet myself to think, at the creativity and joys our Maker has made for our pleasure.

What has He made for you today? Have you thanked Him?

Easter Goodness

March 24, 2008

He lives!

What a tremendous weekend, starting with Friday’s showing of Passion of the Christ, Good Friday service, and an awesome trip to the Lodge. Saturday the fun didn’t stop: I got to shoot my first real gun, we had a great worship practice, I got to see my family at Quaker Steak for our Easter meal (oh yeah!), and I got a computer from my Dad’s crawl space. Yesterday finally offered some rest from the busyness…but not much as we got to assimilate into the Fausnaught family Easter celebration with its countless dishes, desserts, dogs, kids, Easter eggs, and March Madness/Pinochle goodness.

Yesterday was specifically a great day. I really appreciate those friendships, and it felt really good to be away from home but still be a part of a family. Thanks Fausnaughts for your love. It was neat to hang out with Spence and Beth all day. For as close as we live, I can never really get enough of them, and it was nice to be the two lone, young couples surviving the torrent of Fausnaught family-related bustle.

And now, onward to another busy week full of traveling and losing the extra Easter poundage (man, those peanut butter eggs rocked, Beth).

Memorizing John

March 20, 2008

Over the high school youth retreat, I had some pretty awesome times in John. I suppose it was a combination of God talking to me, me not remembering some pretty cool stuff in John, and just a simple revisiting of some awesome scripture.

So, something hit me that I should try to memorize it. So, I started.

I’m still treating this as experiment, because, wow, that’s a lot of scripture to memorize, but hey, the worst thing that can happen is I find it’s too hard, and I’ve only memorized a few chapters. Not so bad. Right now I’ve got verses 1-34 memorized in John 1, and I’m getting fairly good at recalling them by just their number (although Karl stumped me twice in a row on Monday – how humiliating).

I’ve been slacking majorly this week. I memorized the first 28 verses the first week after the retreat (last week), and I’ve only gotten another 6 under my belt (over the weekend). I’ve done basically nothing this week, so I need to get on it.

Anyway, I want to bring it up, because it’s finally hit me how cool scripture memorization is. You have it with you all the time. It’s amazing how often things come up already where I can say, “Hey! That’s like John ___”. I definitely encourage everyone to set aside 4 or 5 verses this week and memorize them. You’ll be amazed how easy it really is, and you’ll be reaping the rewards sooner than you think.

P.S. I would love to do this with our high school guys small group. 😀

P.S.S Yes, it’s sweet that I’m memorizing a book with my own name.

If you haven’t seen this going around, take a look. They’re very impressive and pleasing to the ear.

Gym Update

March 17, 2008

Well, it’s been about 10 Weeks, since Emily and I have really gotten down to business with eating right and getting in shape. We’re also starting week 9 of the workout Brian sent us.

Not a whole lot to update on other than I’m now hovering between 221.5 and 222 lbs. I’ve been at that weight for about a month now, according to our Excel sheet, and I’d like to push and see some progress in the next week or two. Emily’s continuing her steady progress. We haven’t changed our plan in terms of eating right during the week and relaxing over the weekend, and boy, did I take advantage of it these past two weekends. I was pretty happy, though, that I didn’t gain any weight this past weekend, like I normally do (usually a 0.5-1 pounds).

We’re going to keep it up, and hopefully I’ll be down to around 205-210 pretty soon. My original target weight was 200, but I might not go quite that far before I switch gears and look to start bulking up. Anyone know of good plans to add lots of muscle?

File Server, Ho!

March 17, 2008

As many of you might have heard, I’m looking for a junker computer to setup as a file server (and to learn system admin stuff on). Well, stop the presses, I found one. In my very own home.

I talked to my Dad, and we have a crappy computer in the basement crawl space. I figured it would probably be fine for such an application, so I asked if I could have it. It was left in shambles years ago, but I figured having some of the base parts (motherboard, CPU….case) would save me some much, so I could buy the other important pieces.

I asked him, and he said, “Sure, you can have it. You can have the 500 Gb hard drive I bought for it, too.” WHAT!?! I guess he had tried to set the computer up a couple years ago, and he bought this massive hard drive to do so.

So get ready world. Once I physically have this hunk of junk in my possession, I will have my own file server!

P.S. Spence, I’ll see what I can do for your Mac situation. I know there’s something you can setup for your files.

Nothing like a good ‘stache.

I think Pete will forgive me. He may even thank me.

Linguini with Shrimp

March 13, 2008

This is my new favorite meal: Linguini with Shrimp. I dare say it’s up there with steak. Yeah. Freakin’, yeah.

Curses! I can never seem to get our budget rolling!

I had such good intentions coming into March. I setup the Excel sheets (for like the tenth time), and I just never followed through. It’s hard to start, I guess, because I pay some bills for next month now, etc, and I never know where to put stuff sometimes. I’m hoping to fill in everything for March still to pick up some momentum for April.

How embarrassing!
